Mr Chris. Sims, Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police.

PRESS RELEASE

Mr Chris. Sims, the new Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police, is the guest speaker at the Peel Society's 25th Annual Banquet at Drayton Manor Park on Friday, May 30th.

The Peel Society is pleased to welcome Mr Sims, as he is a patron of the Society and he will have some interesting points to make about modern policing in our county. Mr Sims has had a distinguished career since joining the Metropolitan Police in 1980.  He has worked previously in both Staffordshire and West Midlands before being appointed Chief Constable in Staffordshire.

Sir Robert Peel is principally remembered for the establishment of the Metropolitan Police in 1829.  "Peelers" or "Bobbies" are named after him.  The Peel Society was founded in 1979 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the passing of the Metropolitan Police Act by Sir Robert.

Peel's precept of having an unarmed, civil law enforcement service has stood the test of time and has been widely copied all over the world.
