The Prime Minister

The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon Gordon Brown M.P., has agreed to become a patron of the Peel Society.  He is the latest of seven Prime Ministers who have been patrons of the Tamworth based Society founded in 1979 to commemorate the passing of the Metropolitan Police Act by Robert Peel in 1829, which formed an efficient civilian police force in Britain for the first time.

Previous Prime Minister Patrons include Harold Wilson, Edward Heath, James Callaghan, Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair.  The Society is delighted that Mr Brown has agreed to be a patron.

The Chief Constable of Staffordshire is also an ex-officio patron. Mr Chris Sims, the new Chief Constable, is the guest speaker at the 25th Annual banquet of the Society at Drayton Manor on May 30th.
